This stop, Exploration!

My latest FO (that isn’t a lone sock) was an Exploration Station shawl designed by Stephen West. I picked up a yarn kit for it while yarn shopping for another project, and the yarn had been sitting with me for a while before I finally decided to wind it up, mainly in defiance of my All of the Lights cardigan that is currently in hiatus.

I wound up my yarn, decided one of the colours was too light to match the rest, swapped it out for something more me (read: more purple), and cast on.

This is a big project, but wow did it fly! I cast on the starting i-cord, then the first wedge, then the border, then the second wedge, then border again and by the time I was at the third wedge I knew exactly what was going on with this pattern and there was no stopping me.

With all the colour swapping I was doing for this project, I really perfected my two colour Russian/spit joins, and so now I think I could happily knit crazy single row colour changing patterns all day.

This pattern was so addictive, I cast off within two weeks of starting, and immediately started wearing it unblocked. The fact that my blocking space was covered in balloons at the time was not at all relevant… When I finally got around to blocking it, though, I think I fell in love with it even more than I possibly thought I could!

These colours and this pattern just make me so happy!!
