Flying off the Needles

Fear of Finishing

Usually, I love racing ahead in a knitting project to get it off my needles and get started on the next project, but lately I've noticed myself slowing down as I approach the end of something. I know I've been less keen to knit towards the toes of my pair of socks, and I have not touched my cardigan for a month, since I finally reached the pockets... I'm knitting a test swatch for steeking right now, and I've even been slow in finishing that one off!

I suspect this is all an unexpected side effect of having so many concurrent knitting projects. My brain has decided that every time I finish a project, I start another one, and so now, even though finishing a project does not leave me without knitting to continue, I start to stress about what next project I will begin. My attention starts to drift towards light linen tops for summer, complex lacy projects, swatches to try out new designs, the yarn that I already have along with matching patterns, just waiting to be cast on… Honestly, I don't know if I'm cut out for this multiple WIP lifestyle…

I thought it would be freeing, giving myself permission to just start projects whenever they catch my fancy, but if it means never finishing them, then I'd rather just stick to finishing my existing projects one at a time… Which is unfortunate, because I think I've just decided my next (small) project!
