Brioche fun with Bristol!
Last week I had the opportunity to learn Brioche Knitting from Bristol Ivy. This was probably slightly less exciting for me, because unlike many other people in the group, I already knew how to work the brioche stitch. I've worked it plain in a simple cowl, and I've also worked it for a two colour shawl design.
I was inviting my new-to-knitting friend to come to the class, though, so I joined in with my yarn and needles for swatching, and settled in to learn something.
I learned so much!!
Bristol started off by drawing diagrams of the stitches we would be creating, and honestly, I've never been more impressed with someone's freehand sketches, I have tried drawing out knitting stitches before to explain things to my friends, and it is hard.
We started off by learning how to knit the Fisherman's Rib stitch, which was completely new to me.
And yet, sort of wasn't...
Did you know that knitting the Fisherman's Rib stitch creates the exact same fabric as knitting the Brioche stitch?! I did not know this!! My mind was BLOWN!!!
Honestly, everything after this didn’t really matter, because I was still reeling from this amazing discovery that I could create the same fabric in two completely different ways.
However, I will one day achieve the skill that is knitting two colours of brioche in a single pass over a round.
One day…
